# Create a pipeline

Create an automation pipeline in Curade from a template or from scratch, fill in its parts, save it and run it for the first time.

A template fills in most of a pipeline for a common task, such as a service restart, and leaves the details that are yours to fill.

## Before you begin

- Your tenant role lets you create pipelines ([Roles and permissions](https://curade.ai/en/curade/docs/administration/roles-and-permissions/)).
- The credentials the pipeline needs are in **Manage Automation Credentials** ([Manage automation credentials](https://curade.ai/en/curade/docs/administration/automation-credentials/)).

## Steps

1. Open **Automation**, then **Create Pipeline**.
2. Pick a template, such as **Service Restart**, and select **Use template**. Pick **Basic Pipeline** to start from scratch.
3. Type the pipeline's title.
4. Fill in the parts the template leaves open: its configuration, such as a schedule, its environment variables, its imports, its functions and the stages of its pipeline script.
5. Select **Save Pipeline**, or **Save & Run** to run it straight away.

## Result

The pipeline is in the **Pipeline** list. **Run** starts it from there, and its own page lists its builds, with **View Log** for each one. A stage that waits for approval carries on when you select **Proceed**.
