# Manage automation credentials

Add the usernames, passwords, secrets and private keys Curade's pipelines use, change them later and remove the ones no pipeline needs.

Pipelines refer to a credential by its ID, so a password, a secret or a key never appears in a pipeline script.

## Before you begin

- Your tenant role lets you manage pipelines ([Roles and permissions](https://curade.ai/en/curade/docs/administration/roles-and-permissions/)).

## Steps

1. Open **Automation**, then **Pipeline**, and select **Manage Automation Credentials**.
2. Select **Add New Credential**.
3. Pick a **Credential Type**: **Username with Password**, **Secret Text** or **SSH Username with Private Key**.
4. Enter the ID that pipelines will use, then the username, password, secret or key the type asks for.
5. Select **Create Credential**.

## Result

The credential is listed by its ID and type, ready for pipelines to use. Its edit button sets a new password, secret or key with **Update Credential**, while its ID stays the same, and its delete button removes it. The list never shows a stored secret, and neither does its export ([Share and export](https://curade.ai/en/curade/docs/features/share-and-export/#export)).
